New Things! New Stuff! Lookie!

Oh, hey there. It’s been a while. Let me just say that I haven’t been spending this time away from the blog idly; much has been going on. So much that I don’t think you guys can handle it. Are you ready for the list of awesome things that I’ve made happen for you to indulge in? Get ready. Here it comes.

Smaller Book Cover

I released a new book! That’s right, folks; The Collection: A Novella is now available on Kindle and in paperback. If you follow this link, it’ll take you to the website shop where you can order yourselves a copy. P.S. My other works are available there also. Speaking of which…

I’ve designed a new website! Now not only can you find information about each book and order copies, you can read about upcoming events, listen to soundtracks that inspired the books, and take a gander at my author bio. You can find all that and more at www.katherinesilvaauthor.com.

events

I have a ton of upcoming events scheduled in celebration of the release of “The Collection”! Book-signings and readings galore all beginning next month and going into the fall! Here’s just a few to get excited about:

Thursday June 28th at 6 PM at the Warren Public Library

Tuesday July 24th at 6 PM with authors E.J. Fechenda, Meg North, and Lynda Styles at Topsham Public Library

New England Authors Expo on July 25th at 4 PM @ Danversport Yacht Club in Danvers, MA

And there’s plenty more where those came from! Check out the list on the events page of my website for the complete line up!

Blank paper with pen and coffee cup on wood table

So much new stuff! But what am I working on now?

To be honest, I’ve been busying myself with marketing the new book and getting psyched up to appear at all these wonderful events. As far as new writing material goes, I’m currently trying my hand at a sci-fi tale that combines the desolation of Gravity with the story-telling aspect of Elegy for a Dead World. Not sure exactly where I’m going with it yet, but I’m letting the characters take me there. I also have a speculative detective fiction series in the works that takes place in a Santa Monica-esque locale and combines wit, murder, and monsters. Beast of Burden is the working title on this project and is at the forefront of my current WIP’s.

Where can you stay up-to-date on everything that’s going on? Follow me in the places where I hang the most!

2018! Woohoo! What’s happening?

It’s been a month since we started a new year! A new year means new resolutions, new plans, new chances to start the whole writing biz over and start from scratch, which is my intention. Being that my timing hasn’t been wonderful in blogging the last couple of years, I’ve decided that to break myself back into the habit of writing here, I’m going to participate in a 30 day writing challenge. I’ve never been great at doing these in the past because I’ve found it hard to make myself write every day.

But… A new year is a new year.

So, because it is February 1st, I’ll be posting a short 1st challenge blog after this one. But first, I’d like to highlight a couple of the things I’m going to hopefully set up to accomplish this year. I’ve had a hard time with follow-through. I’ve had lots of ideas that I never really got into or finished and I’m not proud of letting those go by the way-side. So, here are a few key things you can expect to see in 2018.

Cooking Adventures Redux

 a-sign-of-petit-fours5

Unfortunately, I’m sad to say that I can no longer do video Cooking Adventures. It takes me a day to film one of these, money for ingredients, and then, several days of technical, glitch-filled editing before a video is ready. It’s sadly become frustrating to try and make one of these. But I love Cooking Adventures and I don’t want to see them disappear completely. I had this idea; what if I revisited the recipes that didn’t quite work out the last time I did them and tried to make them again? Will things go better this time? These won’t be weekly, probably won’t be bi-weekly, but I’m going to try and fit them in when I can. I think I’ll start with recipes from my first year of doing Cooking Adventures (2012) and go from there. If you want to look back and see what some of those were, follow the link here.

Writer-Thoughts Thursday

85079

These blogs will serve to provide little glimpses into my writing process, things I’m currently struggling with or finding helpful. I want for these to almost be stream of consciousness posts and for them to alternate in length. Hell, these might even turn into update posts as well. We’ll see. Surprises!

Music Monday

Related image

Mondays were always historically “Inspiration Through Music” Mondays. While I’d like to keep the thoughts of inspiration and music alive, these posts won’t be like their predecessors. I intend to post a song, an artist, an album when I feel a particular attachment to it. It might be for a project; it might be an image it sparks or a story I think I can glean from it. All I want to do is share the love of music and the power of story-telling through it.

30 Day Challenges

I’m only planning to do this for February (which I’m well aware only has 28 days…), but I figured if I enjoy it, I should try and do some more in the future. It’ll also come down to how much time I’ll have for them. I want to continue to provide varying content here and if it looks like it’s going to be too much, I might do them intermittently.

And that’s a rap! I think it’s better to keep things light and not pile too many different expectations onto the blog. I am going to try and reboot my career this year. It’s been a couple years since I’ve released a book, the website is in need of a serious redo and I’d like to do more shows than I have. I do have several other personal events going on this year, so my goal is to achieve a balance with the blog, and my books, and my life. Any encouragement would be well appreciated.

Thanks, all. Stay tuned.

Spring Updates (Thumbs Up!)

It’s been over a month since I’ve posted.

This time has not passed idly. While I haven’t stuck to my New Year’s resolution about blogging more consistently, I’ve done a pretty good job of keeping to everything else on it. And I’m proud of myself for those things. Life feels as though it’s on an upswing at the moment and I’m not going to complain about it (even as I suffer from a particularly debilitating head cold).

Instead of apologizing like I have many times over, I thought I’d share with you some of the things I’ve accomplished/started over the last few months or so.

Updates (And a Headache)

I always have a headache

So…if you hadn’t already guessed, the lack of posts has been because I’ve been battling a pretty major headache the last few days. I thought the photo above was fitting because the new Avengers movie comes out at the end of the week! AHH! So exciting!

I should have a new Inspiration Through Music up for you next Monday, a new Horror-FAIL Friday up on Friday, and a surprise Cooking Adventure up for you all on Thursday to make up for this. Since this is practically the first time today that I haven’t been asleep or away from the computer, I thought I’d take a moment to update you on some new things happening around here.

My current WIP has been a dark quasi-apocalyptic literary fantasy thing for the last several months. I’ve actually been working on it for almost two years, taking significant breaks here and there to pursue other projects. After doing a recent poll on my facebook page, I decided to give it a new title, as it had been untitled for some time. It is now called “The Wild Dark” and I’ll be continuing work on it over the next several months.

The paperback version of “Memento Mori” has been delayed yet another month. My apologies to those who have been patiently waiting. It’s been a very busy last few months and I have been chipping away at getting it done. I’m looking at a late May release for that at the moment. What you might find exciting is that I will be having a book release/reading/signing for it at the Vose Library in Union on June 18th. More details will follow about this and I’ll be updating the website soon.

What else? I’m afraid that’s actually all for now. I’m sure I’ll remember something important after I’ve posted this. The pounding in my head is making it difficult for me to concentrate though. Rest assured if I have forgotten anything, I’ll update the post and put it in the spot hereafter.

Updates n’ Such

1125223439

It’s been several months since I’ve done a proper update blog, so I wanted to just sit down, listen to my Haddaway, and give you all an idea of everything going on now. Yes… I’m listening to 80’s music. Don’t judge.

BRAND NEW WEBSITE! Yes, if you haven’t been over to the website in a while, go check it out. I’ve changed the domain name back to www.monstrumchronicles.com and have simplified the layout. It looks cleaner, it’s easier to find information, and it looks much more professional. I’m pretty satisfied with it. I’d still like to get a character page up for some of the main characters in The Monstrum Chronicles but that may take a little while.

Devil Bananas, The Walk, Fly Fishing, Typing Marathons, and More!

Yes. It has been quite some time. Much has happened in the last month or so. And while not all of the stories are fun, I would like to take a moment to focus on what has happened, what is happening, and what is going to happen. Call me the seer of seers, prognosticator of prognosticators…Wait. That’s from “Groundhog Day”.

Anyway, without getting all ‘Phil’sophical on you, I’ll get straight to what’s going to happen here in Katherineland.

Erpdates! Ermahgerd!

Yes. It has been a long time since I’ve given you all an update on things happening here at Monstrum Chronicles central. Figured it was about time. I apologize for my wacky schedule the last couple months. Fall is always so much more hectic for me because I have so much going on. Plus being sick hasn’t helped things. Thank you to all of you who still read my blogs every week. You guys are pretty awesome.

So, this week is Thanksgiving which generally means it’s just going to be a crazy week. I am literally over 80% done with revisions to the physical copy of “Aequitas”. Having just conquered the evil cold (maybe?), I can finally look forward to spending more time in the evening getting this done. I plan to use tonight and tomorrow night to finish up the last of locating issues in the book and starting to apply those revisions to the computer draft.

Then… it’s Thanksgiving (gobble, gobble). I intend to take that day off (but because I’m a workaholic, I might end up working on stuff anyway).

Then… it’s Black Friday. And yes, folks, I’m working that day. Probably going to be a pretty insane day. Not sure how much energy I’ll have that evening for working on the book. Saturday, however, I’ll have plenty of time to make the changes I need to the digital proof. I’ll probably purchase another physical proof so that I can make sure all of the changes came out correctly. When that’s approved, I’ll order copies of the books. So, now, we’re looking at an early December release.

Now, news on other things… I have an author event scheduled for the Vose Library in January. It will be a book signing/reading/discussion event for “Aequitas” and a chance for you to ask any questions you may have about the future of The Monstrum Chronicles. I’ll have more info on that later.

I have been struggling with a bit of writer’s block lately and as a result haven’t been able to really write anything. I have three books that I’m trying really hard to focus on right now. “Memento Mori, Book 3 of The Monstrum Chronicles” is obviously one of the more important ones. I also have “Cold Walls” which is an apocalyptic novel that I’ve talked about many times on here and read a segment of at the Halloween Readings in October. That one is currently on the front burner as I’m trying to get it written before I lose all the inspiration I have for it, ha ha. Lastly, I have started Book 4 of The Monstrum Chronicles which I’m hoping to write at the same time as Book 3. Kind of a crazy thought, I know, but I really don’t want a two year lapse between the release of books like there has been.

In addition to these, I have plans to release a series of short stories through the winter, specifically a western horror (worror) series, I’ve been developing with a whole set of new characters (that also takes place in The Monstrum Chronicles universe). The first segment is already written and just needs some editing magic. You can probably look forward to seeing that one around Christmas.

Now… I think that’s all there is! Stay tuned for Cooking Adventures which will be posted either late Thursday night or Friday morning this week. I’m making a green bean casserole and a sparkling cider pound cake that will (hopefully) have you salivating in your computer chair.

Until next time, have a great holiday everyone!

Storminess is Happening Here

Hey folks,

So I’m currently in the middle of Hurricane Sandy, where the wind is whipping outside. When it sounds like there’s a werewolf outside my apartment because of how the wind cuts around the building, I know that there is a possibility of losing electricity. So far, so good. But the hurricane isn’t the only thing happening here.

I have the dastardly cold that’s been going around here. And it’s in sync with Hurricane Sandy because it really doesn’t like me today. I feel pretty awful. As a result, I won’t have your Inspiration Through Music up this evening. However, if you missed the previous Inspiration Through Music: Underrated Horror Movie Soundtracks (which I’m guessing you all did because I posted it Friday night) I’d suggest checking that one out to satiate you.

Its only 7:31 here but it feels like it’s much later, and I’m fading very fast. Taking most of the day to sleep and use almost the entire collection of tissues I have, I didn’t think there was much hope for me to get stuff done.

Speaking of which… my Aequitas edits are going slowly. I hit page 100 in the physical proof today but it’s pretty slow going. My hopes for this being out by Halloween are definitely not happening, and I’m thinking to even have it out by this weekend is going to be too much, considering how sick I am. So… I’ll keep you all up to date. In the mean time, if you have a Kindle, and haven’t picked up Aequitas yet, it’s available! Check it out here.

Thanks, y’all. I’ll be doing battle valiantly with this cold. Wish me luck.

June Updatey-ness

Good evening, folks.

After a week of content writing before and after my day job, I’ve finished one of my short stories, my western short story, “Landed.” I had some pretty ridiculous goals for last week which, had I not had other obligations, I probably could have finished. But truth is, I just don’t have as much time now. But I am proud to get that one project done. It needs some editing as well as a cover design which I’ll begin looking at this week. Also this week, I’m looking to give some love to either is my short story, “Acquolina” which ties in with some of the events in Aequitas or one of my novella projects (one of which is a thromance (thriller/romance). Hopefully this week, I’ll get one of those finished up.
